Sivasagar to host Brahmaputra Literature Festival-2026 from 6 to 8 Feb, 2026

The historic town of Sivasagar is going to host the Brahmaputra Literature Festival 2026, from February 6 to 8, 2026, with a aim to foster dialogue, creativity and community to bridge local traditions with global perspectives. This year’s theme of the Lit-fest is – A confluence of Rhythm, Word & Spirit – Celebrating the voice of Humanity, reflects the commitment towards honoring the region’s artistic soul while building bridges across nations, languages and cultures.
The Adharxila Trust, a non-profit organization led by reputed author Dr Rita Choudhury, is dedicated to preserving and promoting Assam and Northeast India’s literary and cultural heritage.
Key highlights of the festival are -The curtain raiser at Gauripur will celebrate the legacy of Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah, Pramathesh Barua and the renowned ladies of Rajbari for their
contribution to Art, Culture and Tradition.

- Celebration of birth centenary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika- the bard of
Brahmaputra. - Tribute to Zubeen Garg: The voice that refused to whisper.
- The festival will feature speakers and performers from different parts of the
country and also across the globe. - A dynamic blend of panel discussions, musical dialogues, youth sessions and
folk performances across iconic venues. - This edition highlights the Bodo and Mishing communities, showcasing culture,
their distinctive traditions, artistry, and cultural identity. - This edition of the Brahmaputra Literature Festival will put a spotlight on tribal
heritage, multi-ethnic, multilingual, culturally united identities and indigenous
storytelling traditions. - The festival will hold an award ceremony, constituting five awards to felicitate
icons from diverse genres. - The revenue generated from the Zubeen Garg’s special Uncut Interview in Dr Rita
Chowdhury Podcast channel will be fixed for twenty years to fund for the
budding artists. This initiative honours Zubeen Gargwho made significant efforts
during his lifetime to promote budding artists
The festival is open to all and will be held across multiple locations in Sivasagar.
The Festival Director Dr Rita Chowdhury states: “The Brahmaputra is not merely a river; it is
a metaphor for humanity-vast, inclusive, timeless and musical.”
