‘Zubeen Garg: Geet Guwa Darshonikjon’: A Book in Tribute to Legendary Music Icon Zubeen Garg

In a heartfelt tribute to legendary singer, actor and music director Zubeen Garg, a commemorative book titled “Zubeen Garg-geet Guwa Darhonikjon” was released in a simple yet meaningful programme held at Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir on the evening of December 16, 2025.

The book brings together 71 insightful articles by 71 reputed authors of Assam, reflecting on the life, music, philosophy and multifaceted contributions of Zubeen Garg. The volume has been jointly edited by Dr Dhrubajyoti Das, Associate Professor, Cotton University, and Ujjal Borah, Senior Journalist, writer and publisher. The book includes write-ups of Dr Rita Choudhury, Dr Ananda Bormudoi, Dr Anil Saikia, Phanindra Kumar Devachoudhury, Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, Dr Suresh Chakravarty, Loknath Goswami, Dr Birinchi Kumar Das, Chittaranjan Ojha, Dr Arrup Kumar Nath, Dr Akhil Ranjan Dutta, Dr Rajib Bhattacharyya, Dr Satyajit Bhuyan, Dr Rejaul Karim, Ditimoni Gogoi, Dr Kamal KumarT Tanti among others.

The programme was attended by several eminent personalities, including Nilim Kumar, noted poet; Rahul Karmakar, Deputy Editor, The Hindu; Rajib Prakash Baruah, sports organiser and former ACS officer; Abhigyan Anurag, author; Nasir Gul Khan, sports organiser, along with a large number of research scholars and students of Cotton University.

The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp in memory of Zubeen Garg, setting a solemn and reflective tone. Adding a musical tribute, Dipshikha Deka, a student of Cotton University, rendered a soulful song by Zubeen Garg, which deeply moved the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dhrubajyoti Das briefed the gathering about the conceptualisation and execution of the project, noting that the book was completed within a span of two and a half months through the collective efforts of contributors and editors.

Welcoming the guests, editor Ujjal Borah said that there was originally no plan for a formal launch event, but the programme was organised purely to pay tribute to the legendary artist. He added that the book seeks to unfold several unexplored dimensions of Zubeen Garg’s personality and creative philosophy, and would help the younger generation understand the icon beyond his popular image.

The release of “Zubeen Garg-geet Guwa Darhonikjon” thus stood as a collective homage by Assam’s intellectual and cultural fraternity to one of its most influential and beloved artists.
